We are very happy to welcome the Union of Communities of Armenia (UCA) as a new collective member of Energy Cities. The Union, established in 1997, represents the unified voice of the local self-governmental (LSG) bodies of Armenia. All the municipalities of Armenia are the members of the Union.

The main objectives of the Union are to:
• strengthen local democracy in Armenia,
• advocate the interests of local self-governmental bodies (LSG),
• implement the “European Charter of Local Self-Government” in Armenia,
• ensure the provision of development of local self-governmental system, capacities of the municipalities as well as provision of exchange of local best practices.

During 20 years of its operation Union of Communities of Armenia became one of the important institutions having a significant role in Armenia and achieved international recognition.

The Union implemented a number of projects concerning the advocacy of the interests of LSG bodies in the area of cooperation between LSG bodies and Government of the Republic of Armenia, LSG bodies and international organizations as well as projects directed to the economic development of LSG bodies including sector of Energy Efficiency.

UCA is also the supporter of several European initiatives in Armenia such as the European Local Democracy Week, the Covenant of Mayors, ... and now the first Energy Cities’ member in Armenia! Welcome!
