Växjö (Sweden) – Get inspired from their Impressive and Complete Energy Balance!

by Kinga Kovacs on 1 October 2009 / 316 visites

In the City of Växjö, an active Energie-Cités member, the emissions of fossil carbon dioxide shall decrease by 70 percent per capita until 2025, compared to 1993, and the long-term vision is a totally fossil fuel free Växjö.

Already back in 1996, the politicians decided unanimously about the long-term vision of a fossil fuel free city. The goal covers the entire geographical area, meaning that all inhabitants, companies, NGOs and public authorities have to contribute.

To reach the vision, a wide range of actions have been or will be carried out to ensure that the use of heat, power and transport is more climate-friendly.

Great results can already be seen – between 1993 and 2008, the CO2 emissions per capita were reduced by 35 percent. Please consult here the impressive energy balance of Växjö.

To find out more, please check out the full story of Växjö, written by Henrik Johansson (Växjö Strategic Planning Office); download the Fossil Fuel Free Brochure; Brochure on Strategic Environmental Work in Växjö; Växjö Climate Strategy

It is definitely a great source of inspiration for Covenant of Mayors Signatories!
