Energy Cities’ Annual conference
22-23 May 2019, Heidelberg, Germany

Energy Cities’ next annual conference will take place in Heidelberg from 22 to 23 May 2019, as an integral part of the International Conference on Climate Action (ICCA 2019). The host city is one of Germany’s leading cities on the Energytransition and climate action, with the objective of reducing 95% GHG by 2050. Moreover it is well-known for developing Bahnstadt, one of Europe’s largest passive neighbourhoods. Heidelberg signed the Covenant of Mayors in 2008, and is a committed member of Energy Cities for over 20 years, holding the Presidency of its Board of Directors since 2005.

Webinar - New solutions for sustainable district heating in European cities

Webinar - Remunicipalisation of energy services in Barcelona
Thursday 7 February,16:00-17:00
Barcelona Energia is the public electricity distributor for the Barcelona Metropolitan Area. Its mission is to work towards the transition to a sustainable energy model by boosting self-sufficiency and favouring a locally produced 100% certified renewable energy supply. On 1 July 2018, Barcelona Energia began supplying electricity to buildings and facilities belonging to Barcelona City Council, in addition to 19 bodies and organisations of the municipal group of companies, a total of 3,908 service points.
Clara Rodríguez, Energy Advisor for the city councillor in charge of Water and Energy from the Barcelona’s Municipality and Iu Gallart, Head of Barcelona Energia, the Metropolitan Electricity Operator, will present the advantages and challenges associated with setting up a municipal energy company.
After the presentations, a debate will allow you to discuss directly with the speakers and the Energy Cities community.

JPI URBAN EUROPE POLICY CONFERENCE: URBAN TRANSITIONING - A JOINT ADVENTURE

This conference welcomes all actors interested in sustainable urban transitions such as policy-makers, mayors, city administration, urban practitioners, urban experts and researchers, representatives from Member States, Brussels-based urban networks and European institutions.

Energy in the hands of cities – Energy, transport and innovation Conference / Konference „Energie v rukou měst“
From 27 to 28 February, Litomerice, Czech Republic
Organised by the EU Covenant of Mayors Office in cooperation with Healthy Cities Czech Republic, the Association of Energy Managers of Towns and Municipalities (SEMMO), Energy Cities and the City of Litomerice.
The conference aims to :
- Explain practical and proven examples of energy savings, renewable energy use and sustainable transport at the local level both from home and abroad
- Discuss the legal aspects of energy self-sufficiency and own energy and water resources
- Show the benefits of system planning and the effective implementation of energy and transport measures
- Inform about the current possibilities of financing energy saving projects, the use of RES and sustainable transport from domestic and European programs
- Introduce possibilities for cooperation between towns and municipalities and professional partners with SEMMO and Healthy Cities.

Remunicipalisation of the local energy supply
From 28 February to 1 March 2019, Ettlingen, Germany
A 2-day workshop organised by Energy Cities and the city of Ettlingen, in the framework of the Interreg NWE HeatNet project
Inspired by remunicipalisation initiatives all over Europe, an increasing number of local authorities are expanding their role, no longer simply acting as planning authorities but becoming operational stakeholders and driving forces for the local energy transition. New integrated municipal companies are increasingly being set up.
This workshop, for elected members and municipal technicians, will present concrete examples from different EU countries to show how energy supply can be managed or owned by local authorities. It will provide a lot of space for small group work and peer-to-peer exchange.
