Entitled “Sustainable energy & Covenant of Mayors in our cities”, the workshop aimed at increasing the capacities of the Covenant Signatoriesto achieve their objectives and to promote this initiative further to other municipalities and key actors. The main topics discussed concerned:
- creation of adequate administrative structures within the municipality,
- development and implementation of Baseline Emissions Inventory & Sustainable Energy Action Plan,
- available funding,
- involevment of local actors and citizens.
The representative of the Joint Research Centre - Ronald Piers de Raveschoot - responsible for the Covenant initiative (notably technical Helpdesk for Sigantories) and development of supporting materials and monitoring of SEAPs shared his expertise with the participants.
The workshop gathered representatives of the Technical Departments of the Local Authorities in Romania, local and regional energy agencies with public mission and organizations that have a potential to support local authorities in meeting the Covenant of Mayors objectives.
Results:
- 11 out of 18 Romanian Covenant Signatories have participated
- 7 more Municipalities, OER Members, interested in the Covenant of Mayorsjoined the workshop
- 5 Energy Agencies and 2 National Observers have been present.
Energy Cities will organise more capacity building workshops in 2010 and 2011. The next to come - on 12 October 2010 in Banska Bystrica(Slovakia).
