Energy Cities was represented by its Vice-President, Denis Baupin, Paris Deputy Mayor. “150 participants from 11 Central European countries and 43 cities attended the event”, led by Tbilisi,
the host city and first capital city to sign the Covenant of Mayors in the Region. A momentum was created, which is a positive development for both the fight against climate change and local energy policies as well as for the consolidation of democracy, of which cities are central pillars.
The next step is the extension to the South, especially the South of the Mediterranean. These two initiatives (East and South) can only contribute to reinforcing the Covenant of Mayors’ overall approach as well as the diplomacy of cities, which is to take over from the sometimes failing diplomacy of the States !
