What is Smart-e Buildings?
Smart-e Buildings enables the building sector to contribute to reaching the 3x20 objectives. It is a Europe-wide industry-led mobilisation campaign addressed to public authorities at national, regional and local levels, citizens, national/European parliamentarians and the media.
Indeed, only a coordinated, intensive action from all concerned parties will enable Europeans to bring down the energy footprint of the building sector far enough and on time to meet the EU’s binding targets of:
- 20% CO2 emissions reduction;
- 20% of renewable energy part;
- 20% increase in energy efficiency by 2020.
Smart-e Buildings contributes to this concerted action through a large-scale mobilisation campaign in view of increasing awareness of concrete ways to foster sustainable buildings. The different actors will be empowered and guided to act. Smart-e Buildings uses latest e-campaigning techniques including social networks and stands out from all current and past initiatives.
Furthermore, the project will select and spread existing information on energy efficiency and renewable energy applications in buildings, thus encouraging large-scale investments in these sectors.
What is Energy Cities doing in Smart-e Buildings?
Energy Cities:
- is responsible for the implementation of an electronic toolkit for different target audiences;
- reaches out to municipal actors;
- brings its experience from many previous campaigns and good knowledge of the local level and local needs;
- makes concrete links with the Covenant of Mayors.
Energy Cities members contribute to the documentation of the campaign, reporting on their best practice in the field of energy efficiency in buildings. They will also test the different tools developed during the campaign and give their feedback.
