Several member cities awarded for climate and energy policies

by Miriam Eisermann on 29 octobre 2010 / 466 visites

This month, within a short period of time, several Energy Cities’ member cities have been awarded for their pioneering role in energy and climate policy : Freiburg has become Germany’s "Capital of climate protection 2010", Geneva and Martigny got the eea Gold label and Nantes looks positively to the year 2013 when it will be "European Green Capital". Congratulations to all the winners !

Even though they are set in different cultural, political and economic contexts, those cities have at least two major trumps in common :

  • they have foresightedness and
  • they take the city as a whole and develop integrated policies addressing several sectors at a time.

Their committment to the Covenant of Mayors is an expression of the seriousness of this approach.

That is also why Nantes, Freiburg and Geneva are featuring in Energy Cities’ IMAGINE exhibition, gathering European cities that are leading the way. Have a look at the 17 panels displayed on the exhibition website.
