A country-by-country review of the energy performance of buildings has been published by the Buildings Performance Institute Europe this month. The study, entitled "Europe’s buildings under the microscope", wants to encourage a wider debate on how stakeholders in the building sector can cooperate to transform the European building stock into a highly efficient living and working
environment enabling society to become more sustainable.
Effective policies and incentive schemes to reduce the climate change footprint of buildings require a solid understanding of the current building stock and the way energy is used (see graph taken from the report). The report intends to contribute to an improved know-how – gathering facts and figures about
the European building stock and aggregating the findings to allow meaningful analysis...

...and so does Energy Cities as a partner in the Smart-e buildings Campaign. The objective of this campaign coordinated by EREC is to achieve a massive EU-wide mobilisation and empowerment of cities, citizens, building owners, private and public bodies, parliamentarians and the media via an interactive webportal linked to a large number of social networking sites.
