The Metropolitain Area of Chambéry has announced the results of its competition "Positive energy families", organised from November 2009 till April 2010.
90 families have voluntarily committed to save energy by solely changing their behaviour without any financial investment. The objective: apply the Kyoto protocol at citizen level. The final result has been more than satisfying: the threshold of 8% energy savings in comparison to the previous year has been achieved by a majority of the participating households. On average, 11% of energy and 87 111 Kwh were saved.
- 187 111 kwh saved in 6 months
- 61 tons eq.CO2 saved
- 21 218 € saved, i.e. 265 € per family (calculated on the basis of the electric kWh price of 11,34 cts€/kwh).
Due to this success, Chambéry Métropole has already launched a call to participate in the second edition of the competition in 2010-2011!
As a signatory of the Covenant of Mayors initiative, Chambéry is one of 27 local authorities participating in the French-Swiss project "REVE d’Avenir" (Dream of the future). This project is unique in the sense that it mobilises the 27 local authorities involved (with their 3.3 million inhabitants) around common actions linked to the European energy and climate objectives, the 3x20%.
All those activities are perfectly in line with Chambéry’s strategy for the drafting of a territorial climate plan launched in 2009.
