Koprivnica a new member of our network

We would like to address a warm welcome to our new member : the City of Koprivnica, situated in Northern Croatia (31 000 inhabitants).

Why did Koprivnica join Energy Cities?

Koprivnica has recognized Energy Cities as an association where new knowledge and ideas can be exchanged and where the city can get motivated but also motivate others to continue working towards sustainable energy. Also, since Koprivnica is politically committed by having signed the Covenant of Mayors and is very active in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency and environmental protection, joining Energy Cities was a logical step forward. Some of the major and best local authorities that can serve as role models when we talk about rational and smart use of energy are members of Energy Cities and city of Koprivnica always wants to be in the company of the best if not being the best itself. The City has been a pioneer of several projects in Croatia and wants to continue on the same road, thus the membership in Energy Cities is crucial.

BOLD NEW FACE OF KOPRIVNICA

The long term vision of Koprivnica is to become a green, energy efficient and self-sufficient, prosperous city with a new culture of living.

This goal requires the implementation of aspects of sustainable development into all segments of planning and implementation:

• sustainable urban planning and land use
• energy efficiency
• utilization of renewable energy sources,
• efficient use of water,
• sustainable wastewater management,
• sustainable transport,
• reduction of greenhouse gas emissions

The key elements of future concept development are continuous education, participation in projects and international associations and application for EU and national funds.

BOLD NEW FACE OF KOPRIVNICA sums up the city’s strategy and aims at pursuing a corresponding business concept as well as effective networking among municipal administrative capacity, municipal enterprises and agencies. The entire municipal administrative capacity together with all municipal enterprises, institutions and agencies, notably the Regional Energy Agency North (REA North) with headquarters located in Koprivnica, are thus involved to educate, establish and implement plans, concepts and projects.
