Usually cities had been working together on common topics and then they became twin cities.
Today, it is different! Cities are twinned, but they do not work together!
Energie-Cités’ member, the city of Besançon (FR) innovates concerning the collaboration with its twin and partner cities to give a new impulse to the existing relationship among partner cities municipalities and local actors, to create new forms of collaboration, to exchange and transfer new ideas and know how in the field of energy, climate and spatial planning.
Therefore, Besançon organised a pioneering seminar: “For a sustainable energy future...twin cities take action!” that took place in Besançon, on 17-19 September 2009.
As a follow-up of this seminar the exchanges may continue among the participating cities in order to engage jointly to achieve the targets of the European Covenant of Mayors, which has already been signed by mostly all participants.
The Seminar was cofinanced by the French Regional Energy and Environment Agency (ADEME Franche-Comté) and the Europe for Citizens Programme.
