“Tomar o Sol” (Taking The Sun) is an artistic, scientific and educational project lead by the “Teatro Forum de Moura”, Portugal (Forum Theater).
The project is based on the sun as a clean and renewable source of energy and is aimed at raising awareness, particularly among children and youngsters from public schools.
First, children are invited to a theatre play with live music and original scenes full of humour. “Tomar O Sol” tells the story of factory workers in Al-Bababule. One day they hear a news that changes everything: fossil fuels will run out. Will Al-Bababule Factory closing?
After the play, students are conducted to a pedagogical exhibition created according to scientific research and popular knowledge. This dynamic and participatory visit gives them the opportunity to learn and deepen knowledge about the sun and renewable sources of energy.
This project had a first phase in 2009 with 39 sessions and was attended by over 1,300 students from the counties of Moura, Serpa, Beja and Vidigueira. In 2010 “Tomar O Sol” covered the remaining part of Beja, and the districts of Évora and Setubal.
