On May 13th 2011, Mayor of Lille and President of the Urban Community (FR) Martine Aubry, officially inaugurated this new business park called Eco Industria. Among the 4 companies currently on site, 3 have the main mission to carry out the treatment and recovery of plastic and electronic waste.
After the industrial site called Selnor closed -compulsory liquidation was declared in 2000, the Urban Community of Lille bought the site for "one symbolic euro". Then it started huge works of cleanup and rehabilitation, with a total cost of €6.2 million.

This initiative is not only sustainable development-oriented but also social-oriented. Indeed, the companies in the park currently have 372 employees, among which 105 ex-employees of Selnor, 25 ex-unemployed people and 216 employees with a work placement contract. The companies had committed to it in exchange for a lower rent.
They will soon be joined by 2 other companies, leaders in the sector of plastic- waste treatment. The Eco Industria park is an actual "centre of excellence" in the sector of waste recovery. With one goal : making it a French leader of circular economy.
Lille has been a member of Energy Cities since 2002.
