We are happy to announce that five member cities of our Association have decided to join the race for the title of European Green Capital 2012 and 2013. This prestigious recognition is awarded to cities that proved to be frontrunners in terms of environmentally-friendly urban living.
The competition has been launched by the European Commission for the second time already, with Stockholm and Hamburg having been named European Green Capitals for 2010 and 2011 respectively. Among 17 applicant cities from all corners of Europe, there are five Energie-Cités’ members: Barcelona (ES), Malmö (SE), Nantes (FR), Rome (IT) and Seville (ES).
Since a long time, all five candidates have been setting an example for other cities through their impressive endeavours in the field of sustainable development. In order to know more about their initiatives, visit our good practice database.
Applications for the title are now going to be evaluated by a group of international experts, who will choose the finalists. Award winners will be announced during a ceremony to be held in Stockholm on 20-22 October 2010. Please take a look at the full list of applicants to the European Green Capital Award.
