Energy Cities at COP24

By Sara Giovannini on 4 décembre 2018

The United Nations Climate Change Conference starts today ! Our Vice President Peter Marland, Mayor of Milton Keynes will represent us in Katowice, but other Energy Cities members will also be there to showcase cities’ efforts to tackle climate change.

Today marks the start of COP24, the 24th edition of the United Nations Climate Change Conference. For 2 weeks, the Polish city of Katowice will be the centre of attention of the climate and energy community. Energy Cities could not miss this opportunity to push local authorities’ energy and climate action forward, directly from the EU Pavilion !

On December 8th, Yann Françoise, Head of climate, energy and circular economy strategies of Energy Cities member Paris, will speak at the side-event “Coalition for higher ambition : stakeholders showcasing the way to a zero-carbon Europe”, organised by the NGO Climate Action Network Europe.

During this event, panellists will debate on how to bring the EU’s emissions to net zero by 2050. What is needed in the short-medium term in order to reach this ambitious goal ? What are the desirable pathways ? Mr. Françoise will present the experience of the city of Paris, which recently adopted a new 2050 Air Quality, Energy & Climate Action Plan for a fair, equitable and resilient transition.

On December 10th, you will find us at the #EU2050 : Global Covenant of Mayors event. Our Vice President and Mayor of Milton Keynes Peter Marland will be there, discussing the newly proposed EU strategy to become climate-neutral by 2050. How to ensure a fair transition and what role is there for cities ?
