Energie-Cités congratulates the Commissionner for Regional Policy, Johannes Hahn

Despite the fact that there is no European urban policy and that the EU regional policy has only paid limited attention to sustainable energy issues so far, the Commissioner for Regional Policy, Johannes Hahn is announcing quite a revolution!

In a keynote speech in Saragossa in February 2010, M. Hahn said: "How to make operational the notion of territorial cohesion. We need to develop an inclusive urban policy for a healthy and wealthy Europe, focusing for instance on investment in transport and energy saving in cities.’’

Two months after the coming into force of the Lisbon treat that from now on includes Energy and Territorial Cohesion, this statement meets a strong expectation from both local authorities and Energie-Cités. A good omen for the future post-2013 cohesion policy that will condition the road we will follow to 2020. And a real encouragement for the Covenant of Mayors!
