Energy efficiency is the cornerstone of any sustainable energy policy. However, until now, serious political willingness to reduce energy demand is lacking. Energy Cities sincerely hopes that the European Commission takes on board the Parliament’s proposals in its revised energy efficiency action plan to be due in March 2011.
The report is particularly focusing on energy consumption in the building sector. Members of the Parliament call for innovative ways to remove existing hurdles including district refurbishment plans, and making financial incentives available at regional, national and European levels, such as proven “pay as you save” mechanisms.
Since many years, Energy Cities is contributing to the implementation of energy efficiency on the ground through
the network’s involvement and its members’ commitment to the Covenant of Mayors
the coordination of the Display Campaign fostering the energy efficiency of buildings throughout Europe through labelling and communication
the participation in the "Energy Efficiency Watch 2" project : the aim is to continue the work undertaken by EEW1 project and to facilitate the process of implementation of the Energy Services Directive thanks to networking
