EU Energy Road Map 2050: What if local authorities were doing a similar exercise at territorial level?

The decade ahead of us is supposed to place Europe on the track of a low energy, low carbon economy and of a more democratic society where all levels of responsibility are interconnected. It is time to use these objectives to devise local strategies for smart, sustainable and inclusive territories.

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on “the Energy Roadmap 2050 that aims at presenting different pathways to reach the objectives in the sector. It will address the established objectives of EU energy policy – sustainability, energy security and competitiveness, and focus on how energy security and competitiveness can be improved throughout the transition to a low-carbon energy system”. Through its contribution, Energy Cities calls local authorities for doing similar exercises and the Commission to encourage such initiatives.
