What is ENGAGE?
The ENGAGE project aims to directly support the EU’s Energy & Climate Package targets by involving local authorities who signed the Covenant of Mayors (not exclusively) and encouraging them to share the EU “3x20” objectives at local level and to mobilise all actors to reach them.
Therefore, the objective is to provide an efficient participative PR campaign strategy and an innovative, ready to use on-line tool in order to render the participation of the civil society not only feasible but also desirable. ENGAGE aims to mobilise at least 3,300 stakeholders and citizens and display each tangible engagement via publicly visible posters created thank to the on-line tool. Part of the engagements will also be evaluated with a CO2 and energy savings calculation tool.
The bottom up process involves a core group of 12 pioneer cities from 12 different countries. Furthermore, the project will support collaborative work among local administrations, stakeholders and citizens facing similar challenges in different European countries.
What is Energy Cities doing in ENGAGE?
As project leader, Energy Cities provides the overall coordination & management and ensures contact with the European Commission-EACI.
Energy Cities is also in charge of:
- the monitoring and evaluation of project results,
- the communication and dissemination activities included towards other European local authorities,
- the development of the on-line poster tool, which is the main component of the participative PR campaign strategy.
The 12 pioneer cities are members of Energy Cities and Covenant of Mayors signatories.
