Energy Cities plays a very active part in this unique initiative which will bring together 1700 European Mayors all committed to exceed the EU Climate and Energy objectives.
After the failure of the international negotiations on climate change last December and energetic risks - like petroleum pollution – which are evermore acute, we need local action to lead us towards “cities with low energy consumption but a high quality of life for all”. Employment, poverty alleviation, education, technical and social innovation are all part of the same objective, to create a new kind of growth.
During its General Assembly on 29th April in Salerno, Energy Cities adopted a resolution calling upon the European Commission and all Member States to financially support cities engaged in the Covenant of Mayors through the European Economic Recovery Plan or the Structural and Cohesion Funds.
