Brussels, Komotini, Figueres: our members in the heart of action!
By
Floriane Bernardot on 13 May 2011
Low-consumption buildings, use of renewable energy, replacement of public lightening systems... Various measures that contribute to energy savings and to develop eco-friendly cities with a high quality of life.
You can already discover the new actions of Brussels Capital (BE), Komotini (GR) and Figueres (ES) on our website.
Members in the spotlight : Brussels Capital
Brussels Capital, among others, published a very complete document (available in English, French and Dutch) about the history and results of their sustainable urban policy.
This policy has been implemented over the past few years through action on energy and environmental performance of buildings, environmental management of urban spaces, and support to citizen participative actions (fair trade, short food chains, city gardens, ...).
In Brussels, the building sector is responsible for over 70% of energy consumption and 63% of CO2 emissions, so Brussels Capital has focused on this sector for several years and has shown many efforts to improve energy efficiency and increase energy savings while providing its inhabitants with a high quality of life.
The future passive office of "Brussels Environment"
Brussels has progressed from zero passive buildings in 2007 to more
than 80,000 m² built or planned in 2009. Moreover, the passive standard will be mandatory for all new constructions by 2015.
Brussels, an active city for passive buildings!
