Brest and Dijon: two tramway projects and a common purchase

by Miriam Eisermann on 16 September 2009 / 374 visites

After our last blog concerning Gliwice’s tramway, we are glad to have better news this time. The Communautés d’Agglomération of Brest and the city of Dijon both plan to build a tramway! For the purchase of the trains those two Energie-Cités members have decided to pool together.

The grouped order of 52 tramway trains for an amount of 106 million euros will allow to rationalise the investment and to mutualise the needs. The two members can expect savings of around 36 million euros.

For its tramway project of a length of 14,3 km, Brest will buy twenty trains. Further 32 trains are meant for Dijon which foresees 20km of tramway lines.

This is the very first time that French local authorities cooperate to realise economies in the framework of such a contract.
