Bielsko-Biala: One of the 3 most liveable cities in Poland

By Béatrice Karas on 30 juin 2016

According to a ranking by the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation, our member city Bielsko-Biala is the 3rd most liveable and sustainable cities in Poland. It ranks right after Warsaw and Sopot. The Foundation issued a report on Polish sustainable cities including a ranking of 66 of them in four aspects of sustainable development : environment, society, policy, economy.

This is not the first time that Bielsko-Biala renders outstanding services in energy policy. For its campaign "Bielsko Biala protects the climate", the city has already been awarded by The European Public Sector Award in 2013.

In its daily work, the City Council of Bielsko-Biala is committed to fighting CO2 emissions. With transport being an impacting sector, the council has launched a self-serviced bike rental system in 2014.

Bielsko-Biala is an exemplary municipality which has led a series of actions for sustainability and the quality of life for its citizens over the past decades.

The city has been a member of Energy Cities since 1997 and its Deputy Mayor, Mr Zbigniew Michniowski, is Vice-president of our network.

The Polish Robert Schuman Foundation aims to encourage civic activity of Europeans and to promote the European integration as well as the values which constitute its foundations.
This year, in the framework of the Europolis project, it organises a ranking devoted to the concept of sustainable cities in terms of the quality of life of their inhabitants. The project Europolis consists of regular meetings of local and governmental authorities, non-governmental organizations, politicians and businesses dedicated to challenges faced by European cities.
