Be part of Energy Cities’ biggest Annual event: 1-3 June 2016

Right in the middle of Green Week 2016, we propose our 3-days conference in the Turkish city of Bornova (Izmir). It will ignite curiosity and INSPIRE CHANGE THROUGH COOPERATION.

Stunning examples from European and Turkish cities will demonstrate innovative steps towards a new energy market: on that is decentralized, with a horizontal supply chain and where benefits are widely distributed among new actors and stakeholders. Topics to be addressed:

  • low-carbon planning
  • civic participation
  • energy and water democracy
  • smart approaches
  • nature-based solutions
  • mobility and buildings, and
  • new economic models.

The New Covenant of Mayors on climate and energy and its progressive extension to all five continents encompasses a number of those topics while providing the framework for collaboration between all political levels.

Come to our Annual Conference to get political updates and share practical, innovative experiences with peers. The conference will bring together several hundred policy-makers and practitioners engaged in the energy transition.

Considering its rapid development, Turkey is a particularly interesting spot to discuss the transformation of urban landscapes.

The Municipality of Bornova, located in Izmir metropolitain area, the third largest city of the country, is one of the oldest, but also dynamic and young populated local authorities of Turkey. Bornova joined our network in 2011 and is active in our Board of Directors since 2013. The city’s Sustainable Energy Action Plan has been completed in 2013 with a 25% percent CO2 emission reductions target. Bornova, one of our six member cities in Turkey, was the first city in the country to participate in the ENGAGE campaign.
