30 Greek cities and towns recently joined Energy Cities through the adhesion of the Greek network “Sustainable City”.

“Sustainable City” is a civil, non-profit organisation which provides technical support to their members (30 Greek municipalities and one from Cyprus), enabling them to prepare and submit proposals to European programmes such as Horizon 2020 or LIFE and make use of the available funding.

“The European Union offers a plethora of financial opportunities through programs which are coordinated on a central level and are directed towards Europe as a whole. These programs run simultaneously and independently from the NSRF [National Strategic Reference Framework – editor’s note] and can provide additional funds, which are necessary and maybe critical at this point in time” says President of Sustainable City Dimitris Kafantaris.

“[…] It is unfortunate that municipalities find it hard to spot these funding programs and the opportunities provided, fitting their needs and goals, while also structuring a proposal. Moreover, they lack the ability to network efficiently, so as to form proper teams and promote their proposals.”

We are glad to welcome those cities in the Energy Cities network and are looking forward to developing new projects and campaigns with them!
