The ENGAGE campaign is a participative communications initiative involving citizens and local stakeholders to reach cities’ energy and climate objectives! In October and November 2011, the 12 pioneer cities of the campaign celebrate the achieved results with participants through various activities.
Showing people’s engagements.
During these events, cities displayed some of the 2000 posters of citizens, stakeholders, public servants and elected members already produced. In Pamplona (Spain), the first 250 posters were displayed in a mosaic on a huge panel. Large street commercials of ENGAGE posters could be seen in Oeiras (Portugal), ENGAGE participants could also discover themselves on large posters. In Bielsko-Biala (Poland) an exhibition displaying posters from the local Climate Ambassadors was placed in a shopping centre.
Play your part in building a sustainable energy future.
A panel discussion about sustainable living opportunities and possibilities was led in Helsinki (Finland) by public servants. There was an interactive exhibition about the individuals purchasing choices where one can “shop” and estimate roughly the carbon foot print according to the habits and practices of everyday life. Everyone could collect blocks (with different sizes and colours) representing different areas of life: commuting, free time, purchases, and living. When finished, the blocks where calculated altogether and the visitor got a "receipt" with a rough estimation of his/her CO2 footprint. Panelists collected their own "shopping baskets" and results were discussed. In Rimini (Italy), 110 new engagements from participants were placed on a virtual tree.
Measuring improvements!
ENGAGE participants are encouraged to monitor their energy consumption to prove that communications initiatives do lead to concrete results! Thanks to the CO2-Spiegel tool, participants in Heidelberg (Germany) can easily evaluate their energy consumption and calculate the potential savings of actions they engage to implement.
Best to bend while ‘tis a twig, or how the youngest got engaged.
A lot of activities focused on education. In Rimini, the 15 pedibus lines for primary schools were promoted. In Bielsko-Biala, children could arrange a large puzzle representing a sustainable city. The City of Pamplona made available orginal bikes carrying posters.
Energy and culture: making it attractive.
A choir committed in Växjö (Sweden). Lots of cultural associations got involved in Bielsko-Biala (Poland). Their outstanding backstage video reflects the liveliness of the campaign.
Your local authority can join the ENGAGE campaign too! Participation is FREE for the first 150 local authorities!
