EU POLICY AND PROJECT ASSISTANT


Internship location: Energy Cities’ office in Brussels

Duration: full time, 6 months


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The intern main focus will be to develop briefings and proposals on the future European Multi-annual Financial Framework (2027/ 2034). As detailed in our publication ‘Cities in the EU Green deal: cities will bear new obligations and we will advocate for  EU  to provide cities with the adequate means to implement all the legislations. This work will require desktop research, working with EU stakeholders experts in the different files and EU policy makers. It will also draw on the experience of Energy Cities in the different EU programmes (Mission cities, European City Facility, URBACT…)and discuss proposals with our project partners.

In addition, the intern will co-design lobbying strategy on climate democracy and investigate, describe good practices on local climate assemblies.

The intern will support in liaising with other cities networks and with Think tanks and NGOs to coordinate positions, share information, write briefing documents and identify areas of collaboration to bring our demands on the EU agenda. This will include communication and advocacy activities like drafting  position paper, articles, briefing, attending debates and organizing events.

The intern will closely work with the Energy Cities policy team  and support them in other lobbying work and briefing Energy Cities members and the Board of Energy Cities.

Activities will include

  • Writing and publishing policy reports for Members
  • Monitoring and following-up relevant legislative work of European institutions
  • Supporting the production of briefing documents
  • Desk-top research and analysis
  • Drafting position papers and related policy materials
  • Co-organise event with EU policy makers and local elected representatives
  • Participating in relevant meetings and reporting
  • Drafting blog articles
  • Attending debates and external meetings

CANDIDATE’S PROFILE AND SKILLS

Eligibility

  • Eligible candidates must be enrolled in a university studies. A contract has to be signed with the university.
  • Studies in Political Sciences, economics or International Relations or Urban Planning and Management.
  • Interest in the areas of Energy, Climate, finance sustainability, local economies, EU policies 

Other skills

  • Sound knowledge of EU decision-making mechanisms and public finance
  • Native English speaker or equivalent;
  • Good communication style both in writing and orally
  • Ability to synthesize information and extract key messages
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Ability to work in team as well as to take own initiatives
  • Proficient use of processing tools such as Office package

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work place location: Energy Cities Brussels/ Mundo Madou/ 7-8 Av des Arts, Brussels

Financial conditions: 935€/month + meal vounchers

Contract duration: 6 months (open to discussion, especially for the starting date)
